EFCC nabs alleged impostor

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it has arrested one Mohammed Adamu for allegedly parading himself as an employee of the anti-graft agency.


The commission’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said Adamu was arrested while allegedly extorting money from the Executive Secretary, Gombe State Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board, Alhaji Usman Gurama, under the guise of securing Hajj seat to Saudi Arabia for some workers of the Gombe zone of the commission.
Uwujaren said investigators found out that the suspect had written a letter to the executive secretary, requesting money for some EFCC workers.
Uwujaren said, “Upon his arrest by the EFCC, he confessed not being a worker of the commission. It turned out that the suspect works with the Gombe Local Government Education Authority as Assistant Headteacher at the Madaki Primary School.
“Adamu had in his possession, Nigeria Police Force’s identity card with his name and picture as Corporal, a temporary appointment offer letter from the Gombe Education Authority, three different copies of Hajj seat receipts and a letter written by the suspect to the executive secretary of the state Muslim pilgrim board, requesting money for some officers of the EFCC.”
Uwujaren said the suspect would soon be arraigned in court.
