N1m prize: Obisia, Okorodudu laud GOtv

Obisia Nwankpa
Former boxers, Obisia Nwankpa and Jeremiah Okorodudu, have commended digital terrestrial pay-TV provider, GOtv, for offering a cash prize of N1m to the best boxer at the 3rd edition of the GOtv Boxing Night holding on July 26 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium Lagos.

Obisia and Okorodudu spoke in Lagos on Tuesday during a press conference to announce the six-fight professional boxing event.
Okorududu said he was happy at the announcement of the decision to award the generous cash prize, the biggest in the history of Nigerian boxing, describing it as an indication that the sport has regained its glory in the country.
The ex-Olympian called on the 12 boxers billed to fight at the event to put in their best at the event.
“If you put in your best, it will further encourage GOtv and other prospective sponsors to support the sport,” Okorodudu said.
Nwankpa, a former World Boxing Council light welterweight title challenger, said the gesture would accelerate the revival of boxing in the country. Like Okorodudu, he called on boxers participating in the GOtv Boxing Night to repay the sponsors’ faith in the sport with committed performances.
