Authorities in Switzerland say the first of seven FIFA officials arrested in May on racketeering and bribery charges has been extradited to the US, according to news agencies.
In a brief statement on Thursday, the Swiss Federal Office of Justice said the official detained in a US corruption investigation into the world soccer governing body was extradited on Wednesday.
The justice office did not name the official.
“He was handed over to a three-man US police escort in Zurich who accompanied him on the flight to New York,” justice office said.
